What are we doing paying so much attention to all the darkness in this world?? If we are believers, why aren’t we unimpressed with the demonic powers instead of being afraid of them? Jesus himself was unimpressed. Take a listen to this passage in Matthew chapter 8.
When Jesus arrived on the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met Him on their way from the tombs. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
“What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the proper time?”
In the distance a large herd of pigs was feeding. So the demons begged Jesus, “If You drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”
“Go!” He told them. So they came out and went into the pigs which ran into the sea and perished.
In the midst of this conflict with the demons, Jesus seems to me to be totally unimpressed with what the devil is doing or saying. Did you notice that? He simply commands them to GO!
We can do the exact same thing but not if we’re constantly giving in to the news, or whats happening in hollywood, or someone else’s pain and suffering. Stop giving the latest reports of what is going on in the world, especially if it has anything to do with darkness.
We are to live completely unimpressed with the devil. Unimpressed with his plans or his successes. He works hard to get you to pay attention to him so you can react to his powers of darkness. If I live in reaction to the powers
of darkness, then he’s had influence on my agenda and I don’t want him to have influence on my agenda.
If I’ve given him power in my life that’s all I’m going to focus on. My calling is to live in response to the Father the way Jesus Christ responded to the Father.
Jesus said he set a table before my enemies. Right there in the midst of darkness.
The power is in the resurrected Jesus Christ and that’s the only thing I want to have take up true residence in my life. He wants to flow – in and through me. He summons us to be an instrument of God, not to be God myself.
If you realize that solution is truly from the Kingdom of God then you’ll stop saying that God needs you to do anything. God needs you to be present so HE can do the things through you that are necessary for him to do. Most of the time, we get in God’s way. We try to zoom right in on the problem and fix it. But God needs us to back off sometimes and stay focused on being self controlled as Jesus was when he cast out the demons in these men.
Bring God in to the darkest places of the world. Darkness has no right to change my agenda of performing signs miracles or wonders, nor does he have the right to change yours.
You’ve been summoned by the Lord for such as time as this. What are you doing with the time you have? Are you staying focused on things that are holy, pure and just? Or are you getting in your own way, or worse yet, in God’s way?
Sometimes its easier to work with a coach to stay accountable to getting out of the way. The disciples had the best coach that ever lived. He can be your coach too. If you struggle with focusing on the darkness, or repeating the negative unhealthy things that control your mind and heart, lets schedule a time to talk.
